What is an "Upward Man"?

Updated: Mar 24, 2023

The mission of “Upward Men” as a ministry is…”Equipping men to leave a legacy of true success”.

The word success has a lot of meanings, depending on the situation or depending on the person. For us here, true success is being a spiritually powerful follower of Jesus Christ.

That is our “why”. That is why we exist as a ministry.

2 Timothy 3:17 – “that the MAN of God may be complete, equipped for every good work”

For us as a ministry, we want to help equip men to not only know and understand, but to also be

prepared for the good work that God has appointed each and every one of us.

This verse says the man “may be complete”. This refers to maturity. To grow (move upward) in your faith and relationship with God. To make an intentional decision that “I am going to be a man that is always moving, always improving, always growing and always influencing. I will be a man who refuses to go backwards – instead, I’m moving upward – eyes on Jesus!”

The verse also mentions we are to be “equipped for every good work”. To live out your faith.

So to answer the question – “What is an Upward Man”?

  •  An Upward Man is…a leader. He is a man of influence. First in his home, then everywhere else.

  •  An Upward Man is…moving. Never arrives, but always looking to God and pursuing a meaningful relationship with God.

  •  An Upward Man is…disciplined. Intentional living for the sake of the kingdom, his family, his community, his legacy.

  •  An Upward Man is…a disciple. Out of the abundance of his relationship with God, others are closer to God as a result.

Through the next several weeks and months we will be putting out content that we believe will help “equip men for every good work”.

We will talk about legacy, purity, influence, family, church, spiritual warfare and other topics that matter to men and will help us, if applied, be men of influence.

There are too many wives with passive or absent husbands. There are too many kids with abusive or absent fathers. There are too many men claiming to love God but living a different lifestyle. We have a call, the Bible is clear on our role as men. Regardless of where you are, it’s time to go upward.

“If you reach the man, 93% of the time the family will follow”
