As we said in our last blog…The mission of “Upward Men” as a ministry is…”Equipping men to leave a legacy of true success”.
The word success has a lot of meanings, depending on the situation or depending on the person. For us here, true success is being a spiritually powerful follower of Jesus Christ.
That is our “why”. That is why we exist as a ministry.
So how do you start to develop a powerful and meaningful relationship with Jesus? You just simply start.
The truth is, you cannot have a relationship with someone you don’t know. We can try with the help of social media and be satisfied with a fake version of connection. But to have a meaningful relationship with someone, you have to first know the person.
God wants to make Himself known. He will speak to you if you quiet down enough to hear His voice, and if you are intentional in meeting with him daily.
So my question to you men is simply this…”Do you have 1 hour for God?” We have 24 hours in a day, do you have time in your calendar to give one of those to The One who most of us claim is our most “important relationship”?
If you don’t make time for God, you will not have time for God. 1-hour. 60 minutes. It will take discipline at first, but soon enough it’ll become a desire, and something you will look forward to and make time for.
1 Hour with God
15 Minutes in the Bible –
o Hebrews 4:12 – For the word of God is alive and active…
o Find a Bible Study, go through a chapter in a book of the Bible. They key here is quality
over quantity. Personally, I read a chapter with the commentary so find a good ‘Study
Bible’ (email me if you want suggestions) and allow God to speak to you daily.
15 Minutes in Prayer –
o 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17 – Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all
circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
o Prayer is your most important activity. The Bible also tells us not be anxious about
anything, but to present our requests to God.
o Men – if you have a family – this is priority number 1. Nobody should be praying for
your wife and kids more than you.
15 Minutes in Study –
o Spend some time reading a good book on the attributes or character of God. A good
book on being a Godly husband or father. If you haven’t read “Disciplines of a Godly
Man” yet, I’d pick that up.
o If you are not a reader, get the audio book and just sit and listen. Listen to a podcast or
a sermon.
15 Minutes in Worship/Affirmations –
o Some people call this a “soak session” – simply just listen to praise/worship, sing or just allow those lyrics to be your prayer.
There is so much during your day that will try to distract you or derail you. Start like this, you just put on some armor. I’d suggest you start your day like this (yes, that means getting up earlier and going be bed earlier) but if you have to split them up, start with the first 30-minutes and then do the last 2 on a lunch break or end your day with them.
The point is simply to be intentional. God will meet you, if you seek and make time.
“If you reach the man, 93% of the time the family will follow”
