3:16 - When Someone Stumbles

2 Thessalonians 3:16 - May the Master of Peace himself give you the gift of getting along with each other at all times, in all ways. May the Master be truly among you! (AMP)

We should pray the prayer at the beginning of chapter 3 “That the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified.

Let’s take this text into context it was written Paul's second letter finds him weeding out false doctrine, encouraging the faithful, and warning against not keeping oneself busy. He was dealing with some people in the congregation who believed Jesus was coming back soon so didn’t feel the need to work and were busybodies causing trouble.

Paul in strong terms reprimanded them telling the people not to associate with them if they won’t listen, not to eat with them, and “ if a man doesn’t work he shouldn’t eat “. Paul said to exhort them, but not to count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

A lot we can take away here …

Paul set the example he worked not expecting free food and a living although as an apostle he could have expected it. So Paul set the example and said to admonish the brother that was not working to excommunicate him but so he would be ashamed and be restored in the congregation. When someone stumbles our goal should always be, to first restore them with love.

18. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all
